Mohali, Aug. 19 -- Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Gian Jyoti Global School, Phase 2, with the dual message of patriotism and environmental conservation. The celebrations began with the hoisting of the National Flag by chairman JS Bedi, followed by cultural performances presented by the students. The primary wing organised a fancy dress competition where students dressed up as freedom fighters. Patriotic songs were rendered, and senior students also performed colourful cultural programmes on stage. On this occasion, principal director Ranjit Bedi, in his address, said that the freedom we enjoy today was achieved after countless sacrifices by lakhs of people over two generations. Although it is difficult to fully realise the value of freedom inherited from our forefathers, it is our duty to imbibe the teachings and messages of the freedom fighters in our lives. He further emphasised that today the world is on the verge of destruction due to blind exploitation of natural resources, and everyone should contribute by planting and nurturing at least one tree.
