India, Oct. 11 -- The fifth annual Albies, hosted by George and Amal Clooney, brought together stars from film, fashion and activism at London's Natural History Museum on October 9. The awards, organised by the couple's Clooney Foundation for Justice, honoured journalists, activists and human rights defenders working to protect justice and freedom around the world. This year's honourees included Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy, Malawian girls' rights advocate and shelter founder Vanessa Mwangala, US war photojournalist Lynsey Addario, Congolese human rights organisation Justice Plus, and Microsoft's Smith for his human rights advocacy. The star-studded gathering was attended by George and Amal Clooney, Brad Pitt, Laura Dern, Emma Thompson, Anna Wintour, Emily Ratajkowski, Hugh Bonneville and Vic Mensa, among others. Mensa also performed his song We Could Be Free at the event. Named after South African anti-apartheid hero and former Constitutional Court judge Albie Sachs, the annual awards recognise people and organisations taking a stand against injustice and defending human rights.
