Handball tourney held at St Xavier's School
Chandigarh, Aug. 10 -- The 5th edition of the prestigious Andrew John Gosain Memorial Handball Tournament officially commenced today at the handball courts of St Xavier's Senior Secondary School. The annual event is organised in memory of Andrew John Gosain. It aims to promote excellence in sports while instilling core values of discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition among young athletes. The tournament commenced featuring Under-19 girls' teams competing in a high-intensity league format. Additional principal Chandan S Patwal inaugurated the matches and wished good luck to each player. A total of eight leading school teams from across the Tricity region-Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula-are now going head-to-head for the prestigious championship title.
Results of the matches played on day one are as under: Match-1: School of Eminence, Mohali defeated Yadavindra Public School, Mohali by (25-08). Half-time score was (19-04); Winner: Simratpreet Kaur -7, Daman -4, Kusam, Anajli, Nazma and Anushika 3 each, Neha-2 and Mahima- 1.
Match-2: St Xavier's Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh defeated Divya Public School, Chandigarh by [8-3] ; half-time score was (6-2); Winner: Anisha - 6, Divisha and Chahal 1 each; Looser: Shefali -2 and Shweta - 1.
Match 3: School of Eminence, Phase 3B-1, Mohali beat D.A.V. Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh by (22-13): half-time score was (10-06); Winner: Simratpreet -6, Nazma and Rajni 5 each, Neha -4, Anjli and Kusam 1 each; Looser: Japji -7, Vaishnavi -4, Harmannat and Prabhnoor 1 each....
