Gurugram, Aug. 17 -- Nearly 70% of Haryana's average construction and demolition (C&D) waste generation between 2024 and 2025 came from Gurugram, producing 1,500 tonnes per day (TPD), according to a review report made public by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) in August. Haryana generated 2,150 TPD, with Faridabad accounting for 300 TPD. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) submission showed collection at 680 TPD and processing capacity at 546.7 MT. Gurugram collected 300 TPD against 1,200 TPD generated from common, residential and commercial areas, including large projects and societies. Faridabad collected 150 TPD against 300 TPD generated. Most districts reported lean and peak generation between 0 and 10 TPD; Faridabad alone reported a peak of 550 TPD, the report said. 11 districts reported landfilling C&D waste at 96 low-lying areas and sites, including 77 in Palwal. 6,148.11 tonnes was landfilled in Haryana during 2024-25. Only Gurugram, Rewari, Ambala and Kaithal reported disposal through recycling or processing sites, according to the report. 82 urban local bodies had identified C&D waste storage sites. Gurugram has four operational sites and plans 20, with 16 proposed by the end of 2026 under its clean city action plan, HSPCB officials said. Only seven districts used storage bins for collection, lifting and disposal. Almost all 22 districts lacked mechanisms to segregate and separately process dry and wet debris. According to HSPCB officials, municipal corporations were directed to ensure contractors and builders comply with C&D waste management rules. The Urban Local Bodies (ULB) department issued 1,251 challans, imposing Rs.11,062,800 in penalties for non-compliance in 2024-25. However, only 27 municipalities had appointed magistrates to take penal action against non-compliance with solid waste management rules, the report mentioned....
