From classroom scribbles to fantasy kingdom, this city lad takes a literary leap
India, Feb. 18 -- At 22, Saksham Deol is balancing two distinct worlds, one of the academic rigour of his master's degree and other of the boundless imagination of a fictional kingdom. His debut novel, The Enchantress's Unraveling, signals the arrival of a young writer who has been quietly nurturing stories since his school days. The book - the first in a planned fantasy trilogy - weaves together mystery and romance, reflecting Deol's wide-ranging storytelling interests.
For him, writing has always been more than a hobby. "I've been interested in writing from a very young age," he says, adding, "I like to write about things happening around me. Even the most mundane moments can spark an idea." The seed for the novel was planted during his school years and gradually evolved into a layered tale of magic and suspense.
Set in the fictional kingdom of Urania, the story follows Lucia Vintrix, an orphaned teenager determined to uncover the truth behind her father's murder. Her quest takes an unexpected turn when a new classmate dies in mysterious circumstances. What begins as curiosity soon deepens into a gripping investigation, undertaken with the help of friends, and interwoven with revelations about family, identity, magic and romance.
Blending fantasy with murder mystery, Deol's narrative reflects a keen interest in human behaviour, perhaps influenced by his studies in psychology. Drawing inspiration from everyday life and ordinary observations, he demonstrates how the simplest moments can give rise to extraordinary worlds.
