Four killed, 9 injured as vehicle plunges into gorge in Sirmaur
Shimla, Aug. 13 -- Four people were killed while 9 others were injured after the Bolero Camper they were travelling in plunged into a gorge on the Sangrah-Palar road in the Renukaji area of Sirmaur district late Tuesday night
The deceased are identified as Rajendra (37), Desraj (23), Rikhi Ram (58), and Ram Gopal (62). The injured include Brij Mohan, Kripa Ram, Devendra Singh, Sunil Sharma, Ram Swaroop, Jai Prakash, Sandeep, Kamlendra, and Kapil (the driver). All of them are reported to be from the Sangrah area. The condition of two of the injured is reported to be critical.
According to the police, there were nine people on board the Bolero Camper. Around 12.45 am, the vehicle went out of control near Gatlog and plunged into a gorge.
Locals along with the police began relief and rescue operations at 1 am. The bodies of the four deceased were retrieved from the gorge.
Police said that the accident occurred while returning to the village with the body of a villager after a postmortem examination. Police said that Jagdish Sharma, a resident of their village, had passed away due to a heart attack earlier that Tuesday. The group was returning to the village in the Bolero Camper at night when the accident occurred. According to the police, the vehicle went out of control and fell into a gorge.
Sirmaur superintendent of police (SP) Nishchit Singh Negi said they are investigating the matter.
Expressing grief, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the affected families. He said that the state government stands firmly with the bereaved families during this difficult hour.
Sukhu also instructed the authorities to ensure immediate and the best possible medical treatment for those injured in the accident....
