SANGRUR, Sept. 22 -- : One person has been arrested in connection with the death of a former kabaddi player, who was allegedly beaten to death by residents of Rogla village in Sangrur. A first information report (FIR) has been registered against nine residents of Rogla village and several unidentified individuals at the Dirba police station. The case was filed under Sections 115(2), 103(1), 331(6), 61(2), 190, 191(3), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the FIR, which was registered based on a complaint by the victim's brother, Jaskaran Singh returned home visibly tense on September 18. Shortly after, nine villagers and several unidentified people brutally assaulted him. When the complainant and his mother tried to intervene, they were also thrashed. The victim was taken to Sangrur Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Rajindra Hospital, and then to the PGI, Chandigarh, where doctors declared him dead, the FIR said. Dirba deputy superintendent of police Rupinder Kaur Bajwa said the deceased, a kabaddi player, had a history of assault cases. She said he reportedly consumed drugs, which often led to fights. htc...
