Farmers set to march to Delhi to push for MSP
India, Sept. 7 -- Several farmer unions under a joint forum will be heading to national capital Delhi later this month, to press for their demands, including opposing smart electronic meters and hike in minimum support price of sugarcane crops.
The march was announced by Bharatiya Kisan Union Welfare Foundation office bearers on Saturday,while mobilising various farmer unions, generating support for the September 17 march to Delhi.
"As we have been only getting assurances without any concrete decision being taken by the state and union government,we have decided to march from Haridwar on September 17 till Parliament in New Delhi.We are getting support from various farmer unions and are seeking support from various farmer union office bearers and farmers to make this a successful march," said Bharatiya Kisan Union Welfare Foundation president Som Dutt Sharma.
Citing their demands, Som Dutt Sharma added that their main demand was opposing smart electronic meters and a hike in minimum support price of sugarcane crop alongwith time bound payment of dues in the very crop crushing season itself , waiver in electricity for irrigation among others. htc...
