India, Oct. 5 -- I am done hiding, now I am shining," a line from the song Golden, echoes singer-songwriter EJAE's own journey from self-doubt to overnight fame. The lead track on the K-Pop Demon Hunters film's soundtrack has been dominating charts, cementing EJAE as both voice and pen behind the fictional pop group HUNTR/X. "It's insane, I did not expect any of this. The love has been unreal, but everything happens when it has to," she tells us. As the singing voice of the lead character Rumi, who is torn between her half-demon, half-human identity, EJAE says she channelled her own struggles into the music: "When writing Golden, I was also seeking hope. Rumi unleashes her demons through song, and I tried to bring that same vulnerability and strength." Once a trainee with SM Entertainment, she was unable to debut despite years of auditions and practices. "The obsession with perfection can be toxic. Being dropped only deepened my insecurities. That's what I love about this film, it's about finding your purpose," reflects the 31-year-old. While she's a sought-after songwriter, having written for groups like Red Velvet, Twice, and Aespa, the success of Golden has changed things. "People now see me as an artiste. They ask about an album or single. I've nurtured that dream and yes, a single is on the way," she reveals. As for the Oscar buzz around Golden? EJAE smiles, "That would be crazy. I'll faint."...
