Chandigarh, May 17 -- Amid the ongoing probe into the 83 crore Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) fraud, a special CBI court on Saturday sent Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) finance director Amit Dewan and businessman Vikram Wadhwa to judicial custody till May 27. The accused were produced before the court after their CBI remand concluded. Dewan had earlier been remanded to four days of custodial interrogation, while Wadhwa was sent to a two-day remand following their arrest in the alleged embezzlement of CREST funds. According to the CBI, Wadhwa is considered a central figure in both the Chandigarh Smart City and CREST fraud investigations. Agency officials suspect that around Rs.75 lakh from CREST accounts was transferred to Wadhwa's account and are probing the money trail. Investigators are also looking into alleged financial dealings and cash transactions involving Dewan and former IDFC Bank manager Ribhav Rishi, who is also an accused in the case. The alleged irregularities in CREST came to light nearly two months ago after accusations of large-scale diversion of public funds. The probe was later handed over to the CBI from UT Police....
