Bollywood's 'Dhurandhar' first quarter at the box office
India, April 2 -- The Dhurandhar wave has dominated the box office, powering Bollywood to a strong first quarter, with Border 2 also emerging a hit. While films like O'Romeo and Ikkis underperformed, Mardaani 3 held steady.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, "Dhurandhar 2 has dominated the first quarter. along with Border 2, it's been a reboot button for Hindi films, proving that you have to give audiences what they want, not only what you want to make." Trade analyst Komal Nahta agrees, adding that the Aditya Dhar directorial "changed the perspective" for an otherwise not-so exciting first quarter. "With that and Border 2, it's been an exceptional start," though he calls O'Romeo's weak opening shocking. "It was a good film with good music, but it just didn't open... It should have opened to double the figures that it did," he adds.
Adarsh feels the Shahid Kapoor-starrer faltered by not going massy enough. "With a massy subject, you try to play classy at times and it doesn't work. you can't balance both. Beyond metros, audiences just want entertainment," he says. He adds that Dhurandhar The Revenge and Border 2 have busted myths: "They've shattered the idea that audiences won't watch long or violent films. if the content is good, even four hours can hold attention."
Kamal Gianchandani, president, Multiplex Association of India, says there have been all happy faces in theatres this first quarter. "The fourth quarter of the 2025-26 financial year has finished in style with Dhurandhar The Revenge exceeding expectations. Even before that, Border 2 proved good for theatres. It has been a big boost to business and we are excited to see what comes next," he insists....
