India, May 13 -- T he controversial ZEE5 docu-series originally titled Lawrence of Punjab may finally release weeks after being stalled over legal and law-and-order concerns. On Monday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court set aside the Centre's advisory against the show, while directing makers to drop "Lawrence" and "Punjab" from the title. The order came during a hearing on a plea by Zee Entertainment Enterprises challenging the advisory issued by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Counsel Amit Jhanji told the court that neither "Lawrence Bishnoi" nor "Punjab" would be used in the revised title, paving the way for its release. The court also viewed the series and observed that it did not appear to glorify any individual. Ahead of its scheduled April 27 release, the show had sparked controversy after Punjab Advocate General M S Bedi opposed it, arguing that it could influence youngsters by normalising organised crime. The objection followed a petition by Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring seeking a ban. The Centre had earlier opposed the release after Punjab Police raised public-order concerns, claiming the series could lead to the "glorification and amplification" of criminal elements through dramatised portrayals and real-life footage.
