Bhopal, May 21 -- The Madhya Pradesh government said on Wednesday that it will write to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over probe into the death of a 32-year-old former model and actress, who was found dead at her Bhopal residence on May 12, even as a Bhopal district court rejected her family's plea for a second post-mortem examination. The 32-year-old woman was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal's Katara Hills area on May 12, months after her December 2025 marriage to the 33-year-old accused, whom she met on a matrimonial site in 2024. Based on the victim's family's allegations of systematic torture and murder over dowry, police had on May 14 booked her husband and his mother, a retired judge, under sections 80 (dowry death) and 85 (cruelty against a married woman) of the BNS. The woman's parents had moved the court seeking a second post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi, alleging lapses in the police investigation, and expressing apprehension that a person related to her in-laws could have influenced the procedure in Bhopal. On Tuesday, ACP Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul said the ligature report of the victim confirmed that she died by suicide by using a belt. However, hearing the matter on Wednesday, judicial magistrate First Class Anudita Gupta said: "There is nothing on record which indicates any collusive or suspicious relationship of accused persons & the medical team of AIIMS Bhopal who conducted the post-mortem. Videography of first post-mortem was done. Case is not triable by this court." The court added that it can't order a post-mortem outside its jurisdiction. The body is currently kept in the mortuary at AIIMS Bhopal at -4 degC, but it needs to be kept at -80 degC for longer preservation and "there is no facility available anywhere in Bhopal for low-temperature preservation", the court noted. "Therefore...a letter be issued to the Station House Officer (SHO), Police Station Katara Hills, directing them to immediately obtain written information from medical institutions as to whether low-temperature preservation facility is available in other higher medical institutions of Madhya Pradesh and medical institutions of other metropolitan cities of Madhya Pradesh and to submit a written report to this Court without any delay," the judge said. She also ordered that the case diary be returned to police. In the court, victim's advocate, Anurag Shrivastava, claimed that there was delay in informing the family about her death and alleged that the police and administration were attempting to destroy evidence. "We highlighted discrepancies as CCTV footage showed date of May 10, but the woman died on May 12. The family alleged she may have faced brutality on May 10, and pointed to suspicious behaviour by her in-laws," he said. Police told the court that AIIMS Bhopal informed it about the death and by the time they seized the belt that was used in hanging, the post-mortem was conducted....
