Chandigarh, March 10 -- Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali on Monday demanded the release of jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh and a parole to Jagtar Singh Hawara, a convict in the former CM Beant Singh's assassination case. Ayali, while speaking during the discussion on the Governor's address in the assembly, said that 4 lakh voters of Khadoor Sahib constituency elected Amritpal to represent them in the Parliament, and they are denied the right. "Similarly, Hawara should be allowed to be in the mainstream. He has not been allowed parole for the past 31 years, and now, when his mother is unwell, he should be given parole," Ayali said. While Amritpal Singh is facing charges under the National Security Act (NSA) and has been lodged in Dibrugarh jail since 2023, Hawara is currently lodged in Delhi's Tihar jail. The Dakha MLA, who joined the breakaway faction of SAD last year, also demanded the release of all the 26 Sikh detainees lodged in different jails for the past three decades. He also demanded that the government to frame a stringent law to check and punish the criminals involved in sacrilege. HTC...
