India, June 24 -- A ctors and half-brothers Arya Babbar and Prateik Smita Patil's strained relationship has once again come under the spotlight after Arya made a remark at Prateik's name in a clip from his stand-up set. Sons of actor-politician Raj Babbar, the two are not on speaking terms. Arya, who ventured into stand-up comedy in 2024, shared the clip on Monday. While talking about depression and mental health, he referred to his genitalia as "chhota bhai" and quipped, "And by chhota bhai, I don't mean Prateik Babbar." As the audience laughed, he corrected himself to "Prateik Smita Patil", before adding, "Kya ho raha hai Smita maa." He also captioned the video, "No names were changed in the making of this joke", an apparent reference to Prateik dropping the Babbar surname in favour of his late mother, actor Smita Patil's name. When we reached out to Arya, he says the set revolves around his struggles with depression and a night when he contemplated ending his life: "The idea is that if someone like me is thinking of doing something foolish, maybe I can stop them." Addressing the joke, Arya says it wasn't intended as a dig. "I realised he is sensitive about not being called Prateik Babbar, so I corrected myself. I always say 'Smita maa', so I said that. I was just stating a fact; the audience found humour in it," he shares. Arya also says he is open to reconciliation. "Wo phone answer kar le, main baat kar lunga," he says, adding that he is uncomfortable with his side of the family being portrayed as "villains". "We are accepting and respecting him, so why are we the villains?" he shares. We reached out to Prateik for comment, but received no response till the time of going to press....
