India, Oct. 22 -- Amid protests and unrest in France, the fifth edition of Art Basel Paris opened to invited VIPs on Wednesday under tight security. The annual international art fair runs from October 21 to 25 at the Grand Palais, featuring 211 galleries from 41 countries across three sectors: Galeries, Emergence and Premise, with artworks worth millions of euros on display. Ahead of the invitation-only Avant Premiere, organisers sent security updates to exhibitors and collectors. Art Basel said police had ordered the Grand Palais to close on Saturday evening as a precaution to protect visitors and artworks. Anti-ram barriers have been installed around the venue, with police and private security personnel expected to patrol round the clock. Visitors will also face security checks. The heightened measures follow protests over the rising cost of living and concerns around education and public services.HTC...
