AMRITSAR, Sept. 8 -- Rural Police busted a cross-border narcotics and illegal arms smuggling module with the arrest of two individuals, and recovered 15 illegal pistols and 5 kg heroin from their possession, said director general of police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Monday. Those arrested have been identified as Deepak Singh, a resident of Rorawala Khurd and Shubhpreet Singh alias Shubh, resident of Verka-Majitha Bypass in Amritsar. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers, and were receiving consignments of illegal arms and drugs for further supply in the region. The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages in this case. Acting swiftly on the information received, police party set up a naka (checkpoint) at the Dhussi Bandh T-point located at Attari-Jhabal Road and stopped two suspected persons riding on Activa scooter, said the IGP, while adding that upon frisking the Activa riders Shubhpreet Singh and Deepak Singh, who was the pillion rider, a consignment of 15 pistols and 5 kg heroin was recovered. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Amritsar (rural) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said, based on the interrogation of both arrested persons, two more accused involved in this module have been identified and raids are being conducted to nab them. In this regard, a case FIR no 388 dated September 6 under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25(8) of the Arms Act has been registered at Gharinda police station in Amritsar Rural, added officials. Four more cross-border narcotics trafficking networks were busted on Monday in Gurdaspur, in which arresting five smugglers were held and seizing 4 kg of heroin along with Rs.4,100 drug money was seized, in four separate operations, said SSP Aditya. In the first operation at Tibbar police station, a police team intercepted a Varna car during checking and arrested Lovepreet Singh alias Lala of Hasanpur Kalan with 265 grams of heroin, Rs.4,100 drug money, an iPhone, and a weighing scale, he said. In the second operation, Dinanagar Police intercepted a scooty carrying two youths-Harpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh, both residents of Changali Kadim, Ferozepur. Search conducted in the presence of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Dinanagar led to the recovery of 548 grams of heroin (FIR No 255, NDPS Act). In the third operation, special branch Gurdaspur and Dorangala Police nabbed Manpreet Singh alias Manna,28, of Islampur near a checkpoint. A search in the presence of DSP Dinanagar yielded 1kg of drone-dropped heroin from Pakistan. In the fourth strike, special branch Gurdaspur and Behrampur Police established a checkpoint along the Ravi River banks following drone movement intelligence. They intercepted Balwinder Singh alias Tita,34, riding a motorcycle and recovered 5 packets of drone-dropped heroin weighing 2kg. SSP Aditya, IPS, stated that Gurdaspur Police maintains a zero-tolerance policy. Over the past week alone, the police registered 6 commercial-quantity FIRs, arrested 7 traffickers, and seized 7 kg of heroin along with 2 firearms....
