93% of Smart City projects in Punjab completed: Centre in RS
Ludhiana, March 11 -- Of the 204 projects worth Rs.4,485 crore sanctioned under the Centre's Smart Cities Mission in Punjab, nearly 93% of the works have been completed, while 14 projects, worth Rs.337 crore, are still under implementation, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha. Launched in 2015, the Smart Cities Mission aims to transform selected cities through improved infrastructure, better mobility, technology-driven governance, and enhanced civic services.
Replying to a query raised by Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal, who had sought details regarding the inclusion of Punjab's cities under the Smart Cities Mission and the status of projects undertaken in Punjab, minister of state for housing and urban affairs Tokhan Sahu said that three cities-Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana-were selected under the national urban development programme. Each of the three cities received Rs.490 crore as central financial assistance under the mission. Ludhiana has utilised the entire quota, achieving 100% utilisation, while Amritsar utilised Rs.484 crore, or 99% of the funds. Jalandhar utilised Rs.445 crore, accounting for 91% utilisation, according to the data shared in the Parliament....
