Hyderabad, Aug. 21 -- A six-year-old boy died after allegedly being slapped by his teacher for not completing his homework at a private school in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, police said. The incident took place at Little Garden School in the One Town area. The victim was studying in upper kindergarten (UKG), and the accused has been identified as Anuradha, a language teacher. A purported CCTV video from the classroom, which went viral on social media, shows the boy crying and pleading with the teacher not to beat him. The teacher is then seen adjusting his uniform before pulling him closer and slapping him on the cheek. Within seconds, he collapses onto her. HT couldn't verify the authenticity of the purported video. "The teacher apparently alerted the other teachers, who tried to do CPR on the student. Later, the school staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Apparently, the boy had suffered a cardiac arrest out of panic," Visakhapatnam revenue divisional officer (RDO) Sadhu Dileep Chakravarthy said. The boy's body was later shifted to King George Hospital (KGH), the same day, for a post-mortem examination. "We shall order an inquiry into the matter," the RDO said. King George Hospital superintendent Dr I Vani told HT that the boy had already died by the time he was brought to the hospital around noon. "We will be able to ascertain the exact cause of death after the post-mortem examination." The Visakhapatnam district education department has initiated an inquiry into the matter, people familiar with the matter said. The boy's parents, who work in catering, and their relatives gathered outside the school on Thursday evening and staged a protest. "Our family went on a pilgrimage last week for a few days and returned only on Wednesday. That is why he had not done the homework. He had no health issues at all," the boy's father said. "How can the teacher behave so rudely with a UKG student?" he added. The boy's mother said, "Without informing us, they took my son to the hospital, where he was declared dead. We want strict action against the teacher and the management of the school." HT reached out to the school authorities and could not elicit an immediate response. A police officer at One Town police station said a case of suspicious death has been registered in the matter....
