3 held with 10kg heroin, four pistols in Amritsar
Amritsar, May 1 -- In a major crackdown on organised crime and narco-terror, Punjab Police on Thursday dismantled two smuggling operations in Amritsar, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of over 10 kg of heroin, along with weapons.
Director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced that an Amritsar counter-intelligence team intercepted Lovepreet Singh of Jandiala Guru on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road near Adda Manawala, seizing 6 kg of heroin concealed in his silver Hyundai i10 car.
Investigations revealed Lovepreet was acting under the direct instructions of Antarpreet Singh, a Dubai-based handler from Sultanwind, who coordinated the procurement and distribution of large-scale drug consignments.
Consequently, an FIR was registered under the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) station in Amritsar.
Simultaneously, the Amritsar police commissionerate neutralised a cross-border module with the arrest of two associates who were in direct communication with Pakistan-based smugglers via social media.
This second operation yielded 4.108 kg of heroin and four sophisticated pistols with five live cartridges.
Those arrested were identified as Arshdeep Singh, alias Arsh, 21, a resident of Lahuka village in Tarn Taran and Tarsem Singh, alias Kairon, alias Pehlwan, 31, a resident of Mohalla Jaswant Singh Nagar in Tarn Taran.
The recovered weapons include two Austria-made 9MM Glock and two China-made .30-bore pistols.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms.
The consignments of illegal arms and drugs were delivered through drones, which were later collected by the accused and further supplied, said DGP Yadav.
Sharing operational details, Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said during the operation, accused Arshdeep was caught with 2.6 kg heroin. On further follow-up and interrogation, co-accused Tarsem was also arrested, and 1.5 kg heroin and four pistols were recovered from his possession, he said.
Bhullar said Tarsem was a notorious criminal, associated with foreign-based gangster Gurpreet Singh, alias Krishan Jandiala. Tarsem is facing at least 16 cases related to attempt to murder, arms and drugs.
Probe revealed that gangster Krishan Jandiala lured Tarsem to work for him with the promise of arranging a fake passport and facilitating his travel abroad, he added.
An FIR under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act was registered at the Cantonment police station in Amritsar.
These operations conclude a high-intensity month of enforcement under the state government's anti-drug campaign. On April 18, Punjab Police seized 64.62 kg of heroin in Amritsar, dismantling a network linked to handlers in Pakistan and Portugal. This was followed by another major bust on April 20 in Hoshiarpur, where district police recovered 9.925 kg of heroin and foreign-made pistols from an inter-state module....
