Hyderabad, June 8 -- A 28-year-old man from Telangana had been shot dead in Philadelphia, US, in a suspected targeted attack while making a late-night pizza delivery, his family said on Sunday. The victim was identified as Kuncha Anshul, a resident of Gundlapochampally in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The death was confirmed by the Consulate General of India, New York, in an X post on Saturday. "We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Anshul Kuncha, an Indian national in Philadelphia, PA...The Consulate is in touch with Anushul's family and is extending all possible assistance," the post read. According to information received by Anshul's parents, Srinivas and Nilima, from local police, Anshul had received an order to deliver three pizzas to an apartment unit in North Philadelphia late on Saturday night. "He reportedly reached the location around 12.30 am. Moments after he entered the premises, two assailants wearing masks opened fire on him at close range," said Tanvi, Anshul's sister. According to US media reports, Anshul sustained severe gunshot injuries to the back of his head and collapsed on the spot. Passersby later noticed him and alerted emergency services, but he succumbed to his injuries. Reports said that police recovered three bullet shells from the crime scene and launched an intensive investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the pizza order may have been placed for a vacant apartment, leading investigators to examine whether the delivery request was deliberately used to lure the victim to the location. Surveillance footage reportedly showed two individuals following Anshul before the shooting, suggesting that the attack may have been planned. Family members strongly rejected the possibility of a robbery-related crime. "This was not a robbery. It appears to have been a deliberate plan to kill him. It was a death trap, designed specifically to target my brother," Tanvi said. Tanvi said the Consulate General of India assured it was coordinating with local authorities to bring Anshul's mortal remains back home in a day or two. She told the media that Anshul had moved to the US in 2023 to pursue a Master's degree in business administration. He had been on Optional Practical Training and had recently secured a job at KWC Partners. A report in NBC Philadelphia said that police are offering a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case....
