Rohtak, June 12 -- A 25-year-old gym owner was shot dead and a young woman injured after two motorcycle-borne assailants opened indiscriminate fire near Fawwara Chowk (Fountain Chowk) in Haryana's Hansi town on Thursday morning. The attackers fired around 10 rounds at close range before fleeing, police said. The deceased was identified as Kapil Redhu, a resident of Dalmwala village in Jind district. He ran a gym in Hansi and had recently shifted his fitness centre to a new location near Krantikari Chowk. The incident occurred around 5.30am when Kapil was conducting a morning workout session for a group of clients on the steps outside a row of shops near Fawwara Chowk. According to the police, two men arrived on a Hero Splendor motorcycle and fired multiple shots from close range, hitting Kapil in the head and back. He collapsed on the spot and succumbed to his injuries before he could be taken to a hospital. A woman participating in the workout session, identified as Shikha, sustained minor injuries on her hand after being hit by bullet fragments. She was rushed to a private hospital in Hisar, where she is undergoing treatment. Other trainees present at the site fled for cover, while some later attempted to rush Kapil to the hospital. Investigating officers are examining CCTV footage of the incident that surfaced online. The video shows the masked pillion rider opening fire immediately upon reaching the spot. Police said that Kapil had been residing in Hansi's Shanti Niketan area and operating his gym in the town for nearly three years. Sources said he had recently solemnised a love marriage, though his wife is currently staying with her parents. However, police said preliminary enquiries with the family did not indicate any domestic or marriage-related disputes. Meanwhile, a social media post has gone viral in which a man identifying himself as Hari Boxer-allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang-claimed responsibility for the killing. The post alleged that Kapil was a conspirator in the February 2025 firing incidents in Shekhpura and Dhani Puriya. Police had arrested two Hansi residents, Ravi Kumar and Inder Saini, for attempt to murder. However, police officials said that Kapil was never named as an accused in those cases. Hansi superintendent of police (SP) Vinod Kumar said that the matter is under investigation and the accused are yet to be identified. Preliminary leads suggest the assailants fled toward Tosham in Bhiwani district after the murder. Commenting on the social media post, the SP said, "The post is being examined, but it cannot be established yet whether the gangsters claiming responsibility were actually behind the murder." He added that Kapil was facing four criminal cases. These comprised an assault case in 2024, an Excise Act case in 2023, a murder and Arms Act case in 2023 in Hansi, and a case of attempt to murder in 2024 in Hisar. He had been arrested by the police in all these cases and was currently out on bail. "The police are probing the case from all angles, and the accused will be arrested soon," the SP said. "The manner in which the attack was executed suggests the involvement of professional criminals. The assailants came prepared and appeared to know the victim's daily schedule," an investigating official said. Crime investigation agency (CIA) teams and forensic experts have been deployed, and regional CCTV footage is being scanned to map the suspects' escape route....
