Amritsar, July 8 -- Busting a narcotics smuggling network, counter intelligence sleuths arrested three individuals and seized 25-kg heroin, Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday. Those arrested have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Jandaur village in Hoshiarpur; Ravi Kumar, a resident of Kirpal Colony in Dasuya, Hoshiarpur; and Vishal Singh of Fatahpur in Amritsar. Their Hyundai Verna car (PB10GS7779), which was being used for drug smuggling, has been impounded, officials said. DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were operating on the directions of a cross-border smuggler and were involved in collecting heroin consignments from different locations for delivery across Punjab. Sharing operational details, he said police teams from CI, Amritsar, had received input that suspects Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar were expected to meet their associate Vishal Singh on Mehta Road in Gill village of Amritsar for a heroin deal. Police teams laid checkpoints and intercepted the car-borne accused near Dana Mandi of Gill village, he said, while adding that during their search, 8-kg heroin was recovered from the possession of Vishal Singh, while 17 kg was seized from Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar. The DGP said that further investigation is underway to identify all associates involved and uncover the entire supply chain. An FIR under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) police station, Amritsar, officials said.
