2 held with 10kg heroin in Amritsar
AMRITSAR, Aug. 6 -- Amritsar rural police busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling network, arresting two persons and recovering 10 kg heroin from their possession, director general of police Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Jasbir Singh alias Monu and Amritpal Singh alias Motta, both residents of Rangarh in Amritsar. Police also impounded the motorcycle allegedly being used for smuggling activities.
DGP Yadav said the investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages, identify all associates involved and dismantle the entire supply chain.
Amritsar rural senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that, acting on a tip-off, police teams arrested the duo while they were on their way to deliver the consignment in the Gharinda area. The SSP said that more arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days as the probe progresses.
A case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gharinda police station, officials said. htc...
