'Think, question and apply knowledge with reform'
India, March 3 -- 1.What is your view of the New Education Policy (NEP) and how will it change the school education scenario? The National Education Policy 2020 is, in my opinion, a much-needed and forward- looking for reform. It shifts the focus from rote memorisation to conceptual understanding, skill development, and holistic learning.
What makes the policy significant is its emphasis on flexibility, experiential learning, and competency based assessment. These changes encourage students to think, question, and apply knowledge rather than simply reproduce it in examinations.
Over time, such an approach will make classrooms more engaging and meaningful, and education more relevant to real-life situations.
At Jainendra Public School, we see the NEP as an opportunity to further strengthen learner-centred teaching and to nurture creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking among students.
2. Please identify some initiatives taken by your school regarding the NEP. In alignment with the spirit of the NEP, Jainendra Public School has placed greater emphasis on activity-based and experiential learning. Teachers increasingly use projects, discussions, and collaborative tasks to deepen understanding and promote participation.
We have also worked towards integrating co-curricular activities and life skills with academics so that students develop not only intellectually but also socially and emotionally. Assessment practices are gradually evolving to focus more on understanding and application.
The thoughtful use of digital tools and blended learning methods has also enhanced classroom engagement, helping us make learning more interactive and accessible.
3. On your vast experience, where should educators focus their efforts to take India to the next level? What are the challenges and priorities? Educators must focus on building strong foundations-clarity of concepts, communication skills, critical thinking, and ethical values. These qualities enable students to face challenges confidently and contribute meaningfully to society.
One of the major challenges today is maintaining students' attention and engagement in an age of constant digital distractions.
Another is addressing diverse learning needs within the same classroom. Continuous professional development of teachers is also essential, as teaching methods must evolve with changing times. My priority has always been to create an environment where learning builds character as much as competence, because a nation's future ultimately depends on the values of its young citizens.
4. How relevant are classroom lessons in relation to real-life situations outside the campus?
Learning becomes truly effective when students see its relevance in everyday life.
At Jainendra Public School, we encourage project-based learning, discussions on current issues, and activity-oriented teaching so that students can connect theory with practice.
Education should not remain confined to textbooks. It must equip students with the ability to analyse situations, solve problems, and make informed decisions. When lessons are linked with real-life experiences, students develop a deeper and more lasting understanding.
5. What are the chief strengths of school students these days? What are the areas of weakness that need attention?
Students today are confident, expressive, and technologically aware. They have access to vast information and are often eager to explore new ideas and opportunities.
Their adaptability and creativity are among their greatest strengths.
At the same time, there is a need to nurture patience, sustained concentration, and emotional resilience. Encouraging reading habits and guiding students to use technology wisely can help address these areas. Teachers and parents must work together to support students in developing discipline and perseverance.
6. What is your outlook on India's role in the world and how can Young India make the world a better place?
India is steadily emerging as a significant global presence in education, technology, and innovation.
The strength of our country lies in its youth, who possess immense potential and energy.
Young India can make the world better by combining knowledge with empathy, ambition with responsibility, and innovation with integrity.
The school Jainendra Public plays a vital role in nurturing and making the students as responsible citizens of the nation.
I firmly believe that when education succeeds in shaping thoughtful and compassionate young minds, it not only transforms individuals but also contributes to building a better society and a stronger nation.
