NEW DELHI, July 23 -- A painting titled Karam Kshetra-Field of Deeds has been removed from the army chief's lounge in South Block, people familiar with the matter said on Wednesday. The artwork had replaced a painting depicting the signing of the Instrument of Surrender following the 1971 Liberation War. Its removal in December 2024 sparked questions within sections of the defence establishment. The Karam Kshetra painting has now been replaced by the Indian Army emblem, the people said. It is unclear if the iconic surrender painting will return. The move comes weeks after General Dhiraj Seth took over as army chief on June 30. A video posted on X on Wednesday by the army's Kolkata-based Headquarters Eastern Command, which showed Seth conveying his best wishes to the teams participating in the 135th Durand Cup, also revealed that the Karam Kshetra-Field of Deeds painting had been removed from the lounge. htc...
