India, Aug. 4 -- Fresh off the release of her sci-fi OTT film Simulacra, actor Aksharaa Haasan says growing up as the daughter of actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika came with the responsibility of protecting the legacy her parents built, while also finding her own identity in the industry. The 34-year-old, whose latest film explores a dystopian future where technology can erase memories, says she and sister Shruti Haasan were raised to value both freedom and accountability. "Both my parents made us understand both worlds. We got the space to be ourselves at home... But I also understand that the world outside these four walls of our home is very different," she says. On carrying the Haasan legacy forward, Aksharaa adds, "My parents gave both my sister and me the understanding that we have to co-exist and do the best we can. Because of that, we have to be a bit cautious with certain associations because we have to defend the legacy they have worked hard for on their own terms and on their own merit. We have also been given the space to be ourselves and earn our own space... We cannot forget where we come from and therefore we have to protect that." Simulacra has drawn comparisons with the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Asked whether the Jim Carrey-Kate Winslet starrer inspired the film, Aksharaa says, "This is a question better answered by Mr Pankaj Sawant, our director. But I would say yes... there was a slight inspiration and ode to them." Although she has been part of the industry for over a decade, Aksharaa has only a handful of acting credits. She says it was never a calculated decision. "It just worked out that way. It's as simple as that... There are no complaints because it helped me discover a side of me during the down period." Aksharaa says she hopes to do more work but believes "it's all about the right time and place", adding that every career has its highs and lows....
