'Every time I work with these superstar women, it begins with a fanboy moment'

ecently seen in the web series Brown alongside Karisma Kapoor, actor Jisshu U Sengupta has, over the years, established himself in Hindi cinema alongside his career in the Bengali film industry. His filmography includes collaborations with some of Bollywood's biggest female stars, including Rani Mukerji in Mardaani franchise and Deepika Padukone in Piku (2015) to Vidya Balan in Shakuntala Devi (2020) and Kajol in the OTT series The Trial.
Ask how working with female actors of their stature has influenced his craft, and Sengupta says, "Every time I work with these superstar women, it begins with a fanboy moment. But once we're on set, they become colleagues and we all follow the same process. I'm thankful to each one of them because they never made me feel like they were stars. They made the experience easy, helped me understand my co-actors better, and that has shaped me as an artiste." The 49-year-old adds, "The only difference is the money part of it."
Despite earning critical acclaim across industries, Sengupta says he consciously avoids dwelling on praise. "The day I start thinking about it, I'll be finished. I've been working for almost 30 years because I'm a workaholic. I take one day at a time. For me, the script is the bible. My character and my director's vision are everything. I don't think beyond that," he ends....
