India, Nov. 3 -- A fter the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) removed a video featuring actor Dia Mirza Rekhi from its pollution-free Diwali campaign following objections from Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam, the actor has now responded to the controversy. Dia tells us that the intention behind the video was to encourage a "more mindful celebration". "It was recorded in the interest of public awareness, to encourage a healthier celebration. Air pollution is a matter of public health, and every effort towards reducing it is a step towards a better environment for all," she says. Dia had also weighed in on the issue last week, after the Bombay High Court urged celebrities to support Maharashtra's anti-firecracker campaign without payment. At the time, she had told us, "I've never charged any money for any public service campaigns. Celebrities are willing to work with governments if there is a priority to solve the very solvable issue of pollution." The BMC launched the campaign following a Bombay HC directive amid rising air pollution, roping in actors Dia and Madhuri Dixit, and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane, to urge citizens to celebrate an environment-friendly Diwali. However, Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam objected to Dia's inclusion, writing on X, "We don't need lessons on how to celebrate Diwali from Dia Mirza. Our traditions are deeply rooted in our culture." Her video was subsequently taken down, while those featuring Madhuri and Rahane remain on the BMC's social media pages....
