Siddharth Jadhav on being confined to comedy roles in Bollywood
India, May 7 -- A
ctor Siddharth Jadhav is a popular name in Marathi cinema. However, in Hindi cinema, he is often relegated to either a cop portrayal, or roles offering comic relief, such as in films like the Golmaal franchise and Simmba (2018). With his recent outing in the web series Matka King, he breaks away from that image, taking on an intense, dramatic role alongside actor Vijay Varma.
The 44-year-old is happy that with his new show, he got to step into a different space. "Comedy is my forte, and I will do it. Main usme bhi alag alag cheezein karta rehta hun aur karunga bhi kyunki audience ko wo chahiye. Par mujhe surprise karna achha lagta hai audience ko. Matka King mein mujhe Nagraj sir (writer-director Nagraj Manjule) ne woh bonus de diya. It was surprising for me to have gotten this role. As an actor, it is exciting as it will change the industry's perception towards me," he says.
Ask if he feels confined to a certain comedic space in Bollywood, having worked in the industry for decades, and he shares, "Main situation ko aise nahi dekhta. Mujhe lagta hai jo cheez mujhe jahaan deni hai, wo deni hai. If the demand from me is to do comedy roles, I will do them. I feel lucky that people remember me first for a role. I love it when people say, 'Siddharth Jadhav thoda aur dikhta toh achha lagta'. Obviously, as an actor I like to explore, but I feel lucky to be recognised for my skills."...
