Schools in Maharashtra to give kids military training
India, June 5 -- Maharashtra's School Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced that basic military training will be imparted to students from Class 1. "This [decision] will help inculcate love for the country, encourage habits like doing physical exercise regularly and discipline that will benefit the students," he shares.
"There are about 2.5 lakh ex-servicemen in the state who will be inducted to implement this programme," he said, adding sports teachers, National Cadet Corps (NCC) and scout guide instructors will help to impart military education to the students.
The proposal comes on the heels of heightened India-Pakistan tensions, which resulted in Operation Sindoor. Nationwide mock drills were held on May 7 under Operation Abhyas, and a second round of drills, under Operation Shield, was held on Saturday, May 31, in states along Pakistan's border.
The idea was proposed by school teachers, who returned from a study tour to Singapore. They were impressed with "the way the concept of Nation First was integrated into the school education system there", explained Bhuse.
Apart from the training, health cards will be introduced for students from government schools. "If a disease is diagnosed during the check-up, the concerned student will be provided treatment under government schemes," he said. htc...
