Production house, Dulquer apologise over Lokah dialogue
India, Sept. 4 -- D
ominic Arun's superhero film Lokah: Chapter 1-Chandra, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, has drawn backlash for a derogatory dialogue about women from Bengaluru.
In the film, antagonist Inspector Nachiyappa Gowda (played by Sandy) refuses to marry a city girl, saying, "I won't marry a girl from this city because they're all s***s." The misogynistic line, combined with scenes of drug use and partying, sparked outrage among Kannadigas on social media.
On Tuesday evening, producer Wayfarer Films, led by Dulquer Salmaan, issued a public apology:
"It has come to our attention that a dialogue delivered by one of the characters in our film Lokah: Chapter One has unintentionally hurt the sentiments of people from Karnataka. We deeply regret this oversight and assure you that no offence was intended. The dialogue in question will be removed/edited at the earliest."
Despite the controversy, the film continues to earn praise for its performances, music and visual effects.
