India, Sept. 19 -- In the latest action against Mumbai eateries over food safety violations, the licence of Colaba's 108-year-old Olympia Coffee House was suspended after an FDA inspection found cockroaches, flies, meat blood residue in a refrigerator and a urinal in the food storage area. The move comes a day after another Colaba landmark Cafe Mondegar's licence was suspended over hygiene lapses. The FDA inspected Olympia on September 16 following a complaint and found several lapses in food preparation, storage and sanitation. These included food being handled on the floor, unhygienic washing facilities, dirty water, damaged chopping boards and improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Inspectors also found that 34 of the restaurant's 35 food handlers had not undergone mandatory food safety training, while required water-testing and sanitation records were unavailable. Olympia cannot now purchase, prepare, store or sell food until the violations are rectified and clears a fresh FDA inspection.
