Navdhara Khadi reimagines India's freedom fabric
India, March 31 -- Khadi India recently brought Navdhara Khadi to the runway at Lakme Fashion Week in partnership with Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI). Held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, the showcase presented a fresh take on Khadi, reworking its legacy as India's 'Freedom Fabric' for a more contemporary audience.
FDCI designers Samant Chauhan, CoEK-Khadi India, Pawan Sachdeva, and Shruti Sancheti each approached the textile with a distinct lens, balancing heritage with modern design.
Chauhan looked to the Silk Route, incorporating Bhagalpur silk into his pieces. CoEK's Saumy focused on handcrafted textiles in natural dyes, while Sachdeva's Swadeshi explored Khadi denim with organic textures. Sancheti, on the other hand, brought together regional weaves, artisan collaborations, and traditional motifs in a collection rooted in craft.
The presentation was attended by the chief guest, Manoj Kumar, chairman of KVIC, and guest of honour Roop Rashi, CEO of KVIC, adding further weight to the showcase. "Khadi is a symbol of freedom, sustainability and Indian identity, with Navdhara positioning the fabric for a new generation," said FDCI Chairman and Advisor to KVIC, Sunil Sethi.htc...
