India, July 31 -- A fter reports earlier this week revealed that actor Tom Cruise's daughter, Suri, 20, has legally dropped Cruise from her name, it is now being reported that her mother, actor Katie Holmes, supports her decision. "It wasn't something that happened overnight. It was a decision that evolved over time, and Katie respected Suri's process every step of the way. She wasn't surprised by Suri's decision to legally drop 'Cruise' from her last name because that's just who Suri is. She's always been incredibly independent and confident in making her own choice," a source told Page Six. The source added, "It was entirely Suri's decision. Katie has spent years raising Suri to think for herself and become her own person, and she's incredibly proud of the confident, independent young woman she's become." Although the legal change only recently came to light, Suri had been publicly using the name Noelle, her mother's middle name, as her surname for quite some time.
