Karan Johar is a very Evolved Feminist: Janhvi Kapoor
India, Aug. 28 -- Karan Johar recently won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for his directorial feature Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023). Interestingly, the filmmaker won the same award for his directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was released in 1998. Actor Janhvi Kapoor, who made her film debut with Karan, recently stressed how he has evolved as a director with the times.
During an interview with Mirchi Plus, Janhvi Kapoor spoke about her favourite rom-coms and called Mani Ratnam's Saathiya (2002) a "toxic love story in many ways". She added, "It is also interesting to see how filmmakers have evolved with society. I think that Karan [Johar] is a great example."
She went on to explain her point further and added, "If you look back at Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. of course, it was iconic, but phir jaake jab unhone Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani banayi, there you can see that he is a very evolved feminist. I think that is a true sign of an artiste."
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, was praised for its fresh pairing and hit music. However, over the years, it has also faced criticism for reinforcing gender stereotypes.
In contrast, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani addressed themes like feminism, the impact of patriarchy, gender roles, and women's empowerment, offering a more progressive lens.HTC...
