India, July 4 -- Your makeup brushes and sponges need a regular wash. Along with leftover makeup, the brushes collect dirt and oil, making it a breeding ground for bacteria leading to acne and rashes. If you've not washed the brushes for a long time, it can also lead to staph infections or E.coli. Wash your makeup tools brushes and sponges in every 10 days to remove dirt, oil and leftover makeup, reduce bacterial growth. Brushes used for liquid or cream products, like foundation or concealer, should be cleaned around 2-3 times a week. Sponges and beauty blenders should be rinsed after every use and deep cleaned weekly. A guide to cleaning your makeup tools: Using a mild soap: A common way to clean your brushes is by using dish soap, bathing soap or shampoo. In bowl of warm soapy water, soak your tools and gently rub them on a brush cleaning silicone mat. You can rinse with them with plain water and let it dry before using. Using a vinegar solution: Clean makeup brushes with vinegar to remove built-up of product and oils. Mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water. Swirl your brushes and sponges in the solution and this will break down the residue and disinfect the tools. Rinse thoroughly with clean water until the vinegar smell disappears. After you've washed and cleaned your brushes, it's crucial to let them air dry before using them again. Let them hang upside down on a rack or simply place them on a towel. Don't dry them in an upright position when the brush hair is still wet as the water might seep into the handle and affect the glue that sticks it together. When makeup brushes are completely dried, store them in an upright position. Keep them in a clean and dry place and cover them to prevent any bacteria from coming in contact with the brush hair.
