Farhan Akhtar calls last-minute film exits a 'pattern nowadays'; dig at Ranveer Singh?

onths after Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3 triggered a public fallout with Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, the filmmaker appears to have taken a swipe at the actor.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India while marking 25 years of his directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan recalled how Saif Ali Khan had nearly quit the 2001 film about a month before shooting because of a date clash. "For me, it was just like my head was destroyed because it was... When we met him, when we got into it, there was nobody else who could've played that part. It was just impossible. It was a true heartbreak."
He then added, "It was a month away from filming, which seems to be a pattern nowadays," before smiling and clarifying, "But, not just with me. things like this happen too."
Though Farhan did not name Ranveer, the remark comes amid their Don 3 fallout. Ranveer reportedly exited the film in December 2025, weeks before it was expected to go on floors, following which Excel claimed substantial pre-production losses and approached FWICE.
