India, Feb. 12 -- C handni Bhabhda, who found fame on Instagram with her celebrity mimicry videos, particularly of actor Alia Bhatt, made her film debut with the Kartik Aaryan-Ananya Panday starrer Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri (2025). While it marked the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream, it also placed her at the centre of a larger conversation about social media stars making their way into Bollywood. She joins a growing list of digital creators who have transitioned from viral fame to film roles, which has sparked debate about follower counts influencing casting decisions. Addressing it, she says, "Ultimately, films are a business. Producers would want to cast somebody who can bring audiences to theatres and generate revenues." There is also the argument that this trend could sideline trained actors in favour of popularity metrics. To that, Chandni says, "When a casting person is looking out, it's not just for 'influencers'. It's more like kisi ka koi social media post ya pictures dekh li, and they feel they want to give them a chance if they match the character. Then having a fan base becomes an add-on benefit." However, she maintains that the final verdict rests with the audience: "Janta will expect only people who can act. Acting is only a medium; the judgement lies with the viewers."...
