Can you survive in Mumbai onRs.25,000 a month? Woman's budget guide goes viral
India, May 14 -- M
umbai is notorious for its high cost of living, but one woman claims she has cracked the code to surviving in the city on a modest budget. Sharing her personal finance tips online, content creator Ayushi explained how she manages her monthly expenses under Rs.25,000.
Her video, originally uploaded on May 8, has since gone viral, garnering over 3.57 lakh views. In the clip, she breaks down her monthly spending in detail. Ayushi said she spends Rs.14,000 on rent and electricity, while keeping her travel expenses under Rs.2,000 by relying on public transport. She also revealed that she spends around Rs.6,000 on food, preferring to cook most of her meals as it is both healthier and cost-effective. The remaining amount goes towards "other stuff", including the gym and her hobbies.
Some viewers pointed out that the expenses mentioned in the video added up to nearly Rs.27,000, including Rs.5,000 under miscellaneous costs. Clarifying the confusion, Ayushi said she referred to Rs.25,000 because her "other" expenses usually stay within Rs.3,000.
She concluded the video by saying, "So, yeah. You can still save if you want."
The video sparked a debate online. While many viewers praised her financial discipline, others argued that such extreme budgeting comes at the expense of comfort and quality of life.
One social media user wrote, "Trust me, local and metros save a lot of money," while another commented, "Finally, someone with a realistic view and struggles."
Others, however, felt her lifestyle reflected mere survival rather than balanced living. One user said, "One can easily survive in Mumbai if we're living for ourselves only and not looking to save money." Another comment read, "It appears you are merely surviving, rather than truly living."...
