A festive feast of Maharashtrian favourites
India, Sept. 13 -- G
aneshotsav in Mumbai brings a distinct shift to the city's pulse. Beyond the pandals, the 10-day festival is defined by food. Kitchens across the city fill with the aromas of ghee, coconut, cardamom, and tempering spices as families gather to share traditional festive meals.
Celebrating this culinary spirit, restaurants often curate special menus that reflect the region's rich heritage. This season, ITC Grand Central in Mumbai is presenting Bappa's Bombay, a showcase of classic Maharashtrian dishes across two daily formats.
The daytime menu at Hornby's Pavilion opens with sabudana vada and koshimbir, leading into main dishes like bhoplyachi bhaji, kala vatanayachi bhaji, and batatachi bhaji. These are served alongside amti (tangy lentil curry) and masale bhaat, complemented by pooris, puran poli, thecha, chillies, and papads. The dessert lineup highlights classic mawa modak, ukadiche modak, and shrikhand, paired with piyush, a rich yogurt-based drink.
In the evening, Frederick's Lounge offers an elevated High Tea spread featuring jeera butter khari, mirchi vada, crisp kanda bhaji, mini batata vada, and savory kothambir vadi. Mawa modak and coconut laddus round out the selection.
These will be available from September 14 to 24 at ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. Lunch at Hornby's Pavilion is served from 12:30pm to 2:45pm, priced at Rs.1,650 plus taxes per person. High tea at Frederick's Lounge is available from 3pm to 5pm, at Rs.1,150 plus taxes per person....
