'Eid is sukoon that comes after Ramzan'
India, March 21 -- For comedian-actor Munawar Faruqui, Eid-ul-Fitr holds a spiritual place in his heart. "Eid is that sukoon that comes after Ramzan," he says, adding that while so much happens during Ramzan that it can be stressful, Eid brings the much-needed pause: "It's like, now we can finally relax, sit together, just be and enjoy the small joys."
While growing up, Eid was all about the excitement of new clothes, food and meeting people, with age and having a family, the 34-year-old has got a deeper awareness of what the festival truly stands for.
One of his biggest joys come from seeing his seven-year-old son Mikael, follow traditions. "Last year, Mikael kept his first roza, and it was special. I made sure I spent time with him, kept him distracted, played with him. just to make it easier. Watching him complete it meant a lot."
For Munawar, Eid is now about creating memories for his children and passing on not just traditions, but also the feeling attached to them. "We make sure the kids feel excited. They talk about it with their cousins and they wait for it with the same energy that we did as kids," he says, adding that food becomes a bridge between past and present. "I can always swear by sheer khurma. I used to think that the one made at my home was the best, but after I married Mehzabeen (Abdul Rehman), I realised how wrong I was. Uske hath ke sheer khurma ki baat hi alag hai," he ends....
