India, Nov. 8 -- Zohran Mamdani was slammed for asking for donations a day after he won the New York City mayoral elections. Mamdani had put out a video highlighting that there was work to be done by the transition committee, and had added that donations would help.
While many criticized him for seeking money a day after becoming mayor-elect, donations have reportedly poured in for Mamdani's transition team.
Zohran Mamdani's transition team reportedly raised $517,947.30 in the first 30 hours. This came from 7,074 donations, the campaign told reporter Nick Garber who works with Crain's New York Business. Garber added that it came to an average of $73 per donor.
Garber's post was shared by Mamdani on X, who reacted with the eyes emoji.
