India, Aug. 21 -- LUCKNOW A divorce petition and demands for the return of dowry have emerged as central factors in Thursday's triple shooting in Gomti Nagar, where a man allegedly murdered his estranged wife and sister before turning the gun on himself.

"Relationship manager Divya Mishra had filed a divorce petition in the family court. She had also sought compensation and the return of dowry given during the marriage," said police commissioner Tarun Gauba who reached the Husadiya residence after Manas Bajpayee allegedly shot his sister and then himself.

He said investigators had recovered crucial documents from there indicating that the couple was in the process of separation.
