India, March 4 -- Ayatollah Ali Khamenei served as the Supreme Leader of Iran for nearly 36 years and six months before being killed in a joint strike by the United States and Israel over the past weekend. Days later, the slain leader's son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has reportedly been chosen as the new Supreme Leader. Mojtaba's election as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic was first reported by Iran International. The decision has not yet been made public and is expected to be announced after Ayatollah Khamenei's funeral. Follow US-Iran war news live updates
