washington, July 29 -- Operators of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max jets would be required to conduct seat inspections under a proposed directive from the US's aviation regulator because they may not have been properly installed, which could risk injury during an emergency landing.
The proposed directive affects 453 US-registered aircraft, the US Federal Aviation Administration said. It's unclear if operators of the jet in other parts of the world are also affected, though regulators in other markets typically follow FAA's lead.
Boeing said in a statement Tuesday that it issued guidance to operators on this issue in December 2025 and that it supports the FAA making that guidance mandatory.P19
