TMC rebels await official status after breaking off from Mamata Banerjee's leadership
India, Aug. 23 -- Two groupings comprising rebel Trinamool Congress lawmakers -- the Ritabrata Banerjee-led 62 legislators in the West Bengal assembly and 20 MPs under the leadership of Sudip Bandyopadhyay in the Lok Sabha - might have to wait longer for their official status to be decided.
According to officials, there is no clarity when their issues will be resolved. Banerjee-who is the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal assembly-wants to be recognised as the Trinamool Congress, led by former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. The 20 rebel MPs wants to merge with the nondescript Nationalist Citizens Party of India, which supports the National Democratic Alliance.
