India, April 19 -- Of the 74 women elected to the 18th Lok Sabha in the 2024 general election - about 14% of its 543 members - 11 came from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the ruling party of West Bengal. That means around 38% of the TMC's total 29 MPs being women, pointedly among parties mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his "address to the nation" on April 18.

Tamil Nadu's ruling party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), another among such parties, has three women LS MPs out of its 22. The Samajwadi Party (SP) of Uttar Pradesh, with five of its 37 winners in 2024 being women, stands next to DMK, at around 13.5%.
