Till March '25: MCD sets cut-off date for 'legacy waste'
New Delhi, Aug. 21 -- While tackling the massive inflow of fresh waste at Delhi's landfill sites remains a major hurdle to net waste removal through biomining, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have started separately classifying old municipal waste dumped at the three landfill sites until March 31, 2025, as "legacy waste".
MCD, in its official reports, is now classifying garbage in three categories - waste dumped up to March 2025 as "legacy waste"; April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026 as "semi-legacy"; and garbage dumped beyond these dates as "fresh waste".
On August 1, chief minister Rekha Gupta stated that "all legacy waste accumulated at the Okhla landfill site till 2025 has been cleared through biomining and bioremediation."
