BIDAR, Aug. 16 -- Three men were killed in an exchange of fire with forest personnel in Chamarajanagar's Datti forest early Saturday.
The forest department said the suspected poachers fired first, while residents disputed the claim and sought an independent probe.
Chief minister DK Shivakumar said a magisterial inquiry had been ordered.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, CM Shivakumar said, "I received all the information today at around 5 am about the forest department personnel conducting an encounter with those who had gone to hunt animals. We have also ordered a magisterial enquiry. The facts will come out." The chief minister added that guns and other material were seized.htc
